Professional background
I undertook my clinical psychology training in Cambridge and East Anglia, and have worked over my career in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Surrey and Berkshire - in community mental health services, GP practices, psychological therapy services and as a university supervisor and tutor.
I have supervised and managed teams of psychological therapists and have held senior leadership positions as a Consultant Psychologist in the NHS supporting the development of mental health services and teams.
I now work exclusively in independent practice, offering assessments, therapy, supervision and training.
Areas of specialist interest
Over my career, I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties.
I have a special interest and expertise in helping people with complex trauma-related difficulties including PTSD, complex PTSD, dissociative conditions and disorders. I enjoy working with people in understanding and resolving the impact of earlier life experiences, helping them to feel freer to lead the lives they would like in the present.
I am also a SCID-D trained assessor for undertaking specialist diagnostic assessments for dissociative disorders (more details here).
Therapy approaches
I am accredited and experienced in providing a number of different evidence-based therapy approaches including CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy).
I also have training in and offer other ‘third wave’ Cognitive behavioural approaches including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy).
How I work
I will work together with you in a collaborative and personalised way, identifying the goals that you have, and drawing upon the therapy approaches most suited for you.
I aim to help you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your difficulties, to learn new ways to cope, and to resolve stuck emotions, and problematic patterns from your past, with the goal of enabling you to live the life you would like in the present.
